"Let’s make it violence": Listen to The Atlantic's Kevin Williamson explain why women who have abortions should be hanged

UPDATE : The Atlantic does appear to have a certain level of decency.

Hey @beschizza the asswipe got fired.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it seems to me like the amount of space in the Bible dedicated to things like not killing, only God can judge/kill you, love thy neighbor, and many, many lessons on forgiveness and love conflict with this.

But I guess many so-called Christians on the right just like to cherry pick the parts that are the most useful to them at the moment.

To add on to this…

How much greater potential does a fetus have than a convicted criminal if it’s born to parents (or a single parent) that either doesn’t want it, or is unable to properly care for it and into a society that gives not one f*ck what happens to it once it has left the uterus?

Add to that the erosion/destruction of our public education system, and all you’re doing by insisting this pregnancy goes to term is (potentially) creating another future convicted criminal. I guess if we reinstate a child workforce, you’re also insuring a supply of undereducated worker drones.

Oh, sure, it might buck the odds and grow up to be president, especially with the bar having been dropped to the floor, but I’m betting on criminal…

I’m not saying that keeping a child you don’t think you want can’t lead to something good. I’m pleased with the kids I decided to keep, and good lord I wasn’t ready either time. But even better than simply insisting they are kept no matter what, is making sure they are protected by society once they vacate their mothers’ loins.

Maybe there needs to be a Pro-Quality-of-Life movement?

“And another thing” he added, “why does crucifixion get such bad rap? Because of Jesus? Gimme a break. It was good enough for the Romans and they are the cornerstone of western civilization.”

Former Breitbart fecal stain Ben Shapiro is pissed “the Left” got Williamson canned for advocating the lynching of women who dared to do what they wanted with their own bodies, saying “the Left” are trying to move the Overton Window. If ya needed proof he made that argument:

'Tis bothering me for some time now, and you really don’t have to answer this - but I wonder how the fuck you can boing from work loik dis? You must go through a hell lot of monitors. And if you have to interact with co-workers, or customers, I imagine some being short of some limbs, at times…

Nah, just kidding.

Keep the rage up, but don’t hurt yourself too much. You know you are not alone, do you?

I might have gotten more realistic and reasonable, maybe even mild, in my view of options. But I’ll know the call when the time comes.

See, that confused me too. He is so not the christian ideal. But yet, the religious conservatives continue to support him. Turns out, a lot of them seem to see him as a the flawed champion of god. A person who is ungodly and unchristian, but through his actions furthers what they think is god’s plan. Apparently, this is a common motif in the bible. Bumbling idiot or horrible despot secretly part of god’s plan!
Yeah. I don’t get it.

What bothers me the most about the pro-lifers is actually that they stop caring when the kid is born. All that effort and money to stop an abortion, but once the child is born, fuck that kid. They don’t deserve decent food or medical care, thier mom doesn’t deserve medical care and parent classes and the things she needs to help raise them. No more CHIP! Take away SNAP! Because once they’re born, it doesn’t matter to the pro-lifers. Just gotta wait till they turn out to be a criminal because they and their family didn’t get the social, medical, and financial support needed to grow up well. Then kill them. This REALLY bothers me.
Oh, and also, the kid needs to be born, but the mother shouldn’t get competent pre-natal care so both she and the baby make it through healthy and alive.

ARGH

The Left wants to move the Overton window so it’s unacceptable to suggest hanging 25% of women as a solution to a perceived social problem?

That’s, uh… correct?

Attempting to make capital punishment look like a medical procedure (eg lethal injection) is actually more cruel than ‘violent’ methods. Capital punishment should never happen. But if it is going to happen we should make it quick and make it clear what society has chosen to do.

The preferred method might be to use a giant high velocity hydraulic press to instantaneously pulverize the person into a 5 gallon bucket of goo. Or a supersized wood chipper that does the same thing. Even a massive firing squad would be faster and more humane than than injection or electrocution. Explosives could be useful.

Besides reducing suffering of the victim, these methods would likely increase the suffering of those who advocate for and authorize capital punishment. Taking a life should be painful for the killer. That is what makes us human. That could lead to less capital punishment.

Of course Williamson crossed way over the line when he jumped from ‘if it has to be done’ to ‘it should be done many orders of magnitude more than it is now’

Well, for him I don’t think this is about better or worse ways of executing people. I don’t even think it’s about trying to reduce the number of abortions or take vengeance against those who have had abortions. I think he just wants to see women hang.

Assuming that by humane you mean quick and with a minimum of suffering:
Only when done properly, i.e. the noose and trapdoor setup, with the length of the rope adjusted for height and weight of the condemned.
Because that way their neck is snapped, resulting in almost instant death.

I’m willing to bet the proverbial farm that Williamson would prefer the classic “string 'em up” lynchmob variant. Not a proper noose, just a sling around the neck and pulling the victim off the ground with it. This would result in a very slow death in utter agony.

Maybe not logic as such, but method to the madness nevertheless.

This guy is not representative of even your common right-wing wackos.

I agree that he isn’t. Still, somehow he ascended to be a representative of them. When people say we should get out of our bubbles and listen to “the other side” I think they deny the kind of extremism that get selected as representing the views of that “side”.
