Liberland is a new micronation

“Our motto: Live and let live”…unless you’re a Communist!

Also, don’t you know, those Croats or Bosniaks or Albanians are really just Serbs who don’t know it… /s

*disclaimer: definition of communist widely defined.

Classic libertarian mistake: forgetting that roads carrying goods, services, and people are what make property valuable.

Well, it’s there now, but rivers do move around quite a bit. Maybe the border did follow the river when it was drawn… it does seem to follow some isolated watercourses round its zigzags.

A road is what connects tollbooths

I’m not quite following this – is this/you saying that Paraduin previously established itself as a state on the land-under-disccusion, and now Liberland has “invaded” and is attempting to claim the land for itself?

Hrm.

The latter is most interesting (forum thread) that quotes John Locke at length to justify that nobody expressed any interestin in Paraduin, thus Liberland is fully justified in taking over.

Man, those forums are … full of stuff:

what about pedophilia
Drugs?
RUSSIANS , ARABS,Chinese as Kurds
official language

Paraduin’s a better name for a made up country, at any rate. More Tolkien, less Goodkind.

A “made up country”? As opposed to all of those other ones?

Please; Syrian, Kurds, Arabs, Russians and Chinese are not write me. Because we will not accept them.

Wow, they’re proceeding at quite a rapid pace for a new country! It took the United States over a century to enact racist immigration restrictions like the Chinese Exclusion Act.

I suspect the no Kurds thing is because they are worried about letting in the Murray Bookchin inspired libertarian-communists, like those currently fighting against ISIS.

Why are you even debating this with him? It’s pointless and he does this at least once a week.

But a blanket anti-(nationality) immigration policy would also preclude letting in refugees fleeing the communists or fascists or what-have-you. “No communists” is an exclusion based on national ideals. “No Syrians, Kurds, Arabs, Russians or Chinese under any circumstances” is just racist.

A racist country in the Balkans?! My word! That’s unprecedented!

I don’t think it’s necessarily cheering for persecution to predict failure, and making a new country on tiny patch of floodplain between two nations with ongoing border disputes is pretty much a sure bet to fail (assuming it’s not a joke/stunt in the first place, which sure appears to be the case.)

I would personally like to see Libertarians get a sizable piece of land to call their own and run as they please, to hopefully shed some light on whether it really is a viable philosophy in this modern crowded world. The fact that I doubt it would work doesn’t mean I am hoping for failure, any more than I am hoping my neighbor plunges to his death when I tell him “those giant home-made bat wings you strapped on aren’t flight-worthy, so please get down from the roof.”

Oh, great, now I’m a “him”.

Thanks, nationalism!
