While I can never support cross stitch, stuff like this shows there is a place for embroidery.
I’ve played with “conductive thread” before. It’s literally thin winds of uninsulated steel wire. It’s kind of unwieldy and a pain in the ass to work with. It’s absolutely going to look really messy on the back side. But, you can do some really cool shit with it.
I did a NeoPixel-bedazzled fedora back in the day, and … OOOF. ESPECIALLY when unexperienced in sewing (raises hand), it’s NOT fun to work with.
On the flip side, though, it was a blast to wear to con parties.
(Likewise, a professional costumer buddy of mine did a hall costume for another friend of mine that got the attention of the WorldCon twitter that year…)
