I mean, I read that as as a demand to make the water on those taps drinkable again. That’s a government failure, not some individual mistake, that’s pointed out
Really? Because it came off as a joke about people who drink bottled water, whatever the reason… that people are too stupid to realize that tap water is a thing… LIke, a reference to how many can’t drink their tap water…
I don’t think that @Brainspore (or anyone else on this topic) are of that opinion. I am not saying that there aren’t people who don’t have clean, secure tap water. I am also not saying people who filter their water are stupid.
I am saying it is a basic human right to have access to clean and secure drinking water. I am also saying to ensure this basic human being right is the job of government and administration.
On the tangent of filters: standard Brita-style filters are not suitable for ensuring safe drinking water. They are ion exchange devices. There are variants with activated carbon, which are indeed (partly) binding some chemicals. Brita, however, is using marketing to make people think their water would be safer if they buy their products without directly stating it would be safer.
In the end, they are commodifying water. As are the Liquid Death people.
Just for the record: I am using a Brita-style filter system for my tea. It isn’t safer, but the tea is just much more delicious. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Sheesh. I never said he is. And who asked you?
Yet another man decides to talk at me about something I wasn’t talking about.
Must be a day ending in Y…
I’m sorry, I didn’t realise you and @anon15383236 were already considering the possibility that the joke was made in good faith, and punching upwards. Maybe you could explain why you dismiss this view? No obligations, of course. I am just confused.
Is it a Marie Antoinette vision of the world? “Why don’t they drink tap water?”
ETA:
Ok, I this seems this has gone past a conversation on the forum.
You don’t say!
Seriously though… it’s not the content which was problematic; it’s the tone.
Way too many dudes here, even ones I consider friends, mansplain in their comments when addressing female presenting members, and it’s beyond annoying.
But maybe we’re not posting here in good faith and the people making shitty jokes that ignores the existence of millions of people who literally can’t drink their tap water and just assumes that they’re dumb are the ones posting in good faith? /s
Well yes tone, but also content. It was being splained to about something I wasn’t even talking about that especially rattled my cage.
Way too many dudes here, even ones I consider friends, mansplain in their comments when addressing female presenting members, and it’s beyond annoying.
The forum is the best part of BoingBoing
No doubt! And surely it’s a good thing to keep working on making it as wonderful a place for all as it is for some.
