I always thought that the fate of the swimmer in The Ninth Wave was deliberately left ambiguous. The sunrise meant hope, but we don’t know if they get rescued or not.

Now I know that as far as Kate is concerned, they were rescued.

I had sat my child down and played this album at them, and explained as much as I knew of the symbolism, and my theory that we don’t know the fate of the swimmer. I just went and told them that Word of God is that the swimmer was rescued. Their response was a little fist pump and “yes!”.
