Los Angeles' new tourism logo

As a born and bred Los Angelino, that really takes me back to a time…

Give it a few decades.

Nostalgia just isn’t what it used to be.

I wonder if the various colors are meant to subtly echo the LGBTQ rainbow flag.

Haven’t they gotten the memo that right now the 90s and also somehow the 70s are back? The 80s revival is so last decade.

Someone has clearly been mining r/outrun and r/vaporwaveaesthetics for ideas.

Since I first saw this logo something was rattling around my back brain. I finally remembered what it reminds me of. There was a line of RV’s (or was it campers?) in the 80s with a similar logo. You’d see them quite often. Since all I have is a foggy half-recollection, I have no idea if that logo really looked like this one, but it reverberates.

Luckily, some enterprising LA city employee uncovered a long forgotten clip art disk purchased from the Microcenter bargain bin in 2004.

Santa Monica.
On a side note:
Mr. Fuhrley was the best property manager
Terri was the best blonde roommate

I think it is solid. It is retro, but it says “Sun and Fun”.

Retro is hot right now. I like it.

Miami Vice: Los Angeles

(speaking of Vice, looks like I just got promoted to BBS Vice Admiral - now I want a “BBS Vice” logo…)

I remember this like it was the first time I read it in Mad, over 50 years ago …

(to the tune of “It’s a Grand Old Flag”)

It”s a grand old smog
it’s a low-lying smog
you can tell by the smell and the pall
though it clouds the skies
and burns our eyes
it means there’s employment for all
for it comes, you see
from some great factory
where there’s never an idle cog
so let’s give thanks for our way of life
and remember that grand old smog!
