Love Letters to Hitler

A cult of private fealty to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler grew in the years before World War II, reflecting public fawning by the Reich’s city fathers. These love letters – some from prominent Americans – now read as a warning.

Now this is how you suck up to a tyrannical despot in style. Wearing red ball caps that were made in China is just so boorish by comparison.

As I recall from films, their rallies were much better organized, too.

The more times change, the more things remain the same. Repeat, ad nauseam.

Here’s my love letter to Hitler.

Positively chilling. I had no idea.

Yes, those are Nazi Swastika banners hanging alongside American Flags at Madison Square Garden (1939).

This is why prominent Jewish organizations repeatedly requested that Trump stop repeating the slogan “America First!” during his 2016 campaign. He refused.

You can read the same sentiments written by his cult as tweets to Trump every day. It is astounding to read how much they “love” dear leader and pledge their allegiance to him.

Munich was, for a long time, unsure how to deal with its history with the nazis, because Munich was the birthplace. But slowly, slowly, they are coming around. The new Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism as well as the one in Nuremberg are worth visiting.

And if you do decide to come to Munich, let me know. I will try to find time to lead a walking tour.

Cool. I’ll keep that in mind and take you up on that offer.

Howes was active in the America First movement and was listed as one of the rally sponsors at Madison Square Gardens in October 1941, featuring speakers such as real estate developer and diplomat, John Cudahy, Senator Burton Wheeler from Montana, and famed pilot Charles Lindburgh

Another opportunity to remind everyone that “America First” is one of the slogans of Il Douche and his followers. Not all of them are ignorant of the history, either.

I’m hoping more people will become aware of this dark period of American history with the David Simon TV adaptation of Roth’s Plot Against America.

There sure do seem to be a lot of alternate-history TV shows premised on the idea of fascists rising to power in America lately. You’ve got The Plot Against America and Watchmen on HBO, The Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime, and PBS NewsHour on Public Television.

Charles Manson had quite a following too. Never, ever bet against stupidity.

I sure miss the days when this could be seen as unalloyed satire. Now, there will always be some asshole who sees this as a dog whistle instead.

Be the change you want to see in the world

I’d be happier knowing that no one was watching and taking notes.

I am not a fearful person. I don’t go around worrying. If there is one thing, though, that gives me pause, it is who are coming after the Trumpers.

Tea Party freaks were bad. Trumpers are downright evil, stupid and illogical. Yet both have an element of chaos. What about when these shitheels get organized? Then we will be well and truly fuct. That’s what scares me.
