The idiot’s excuse in the video was “I saw it on TikTok…” what a fucking loser.

I wonder how they got the creeps to open up the trunk to expose the stolen signs.

It’s kind of fascinating how TikTok (and other socials) somehow make people forget the general rules of…life. “I saw someone eat Tide Pods, so I’m gonna do that.” “I saw somebody shoot somebody else using the yellow pages as body armor, so I’m going to try it.” “I saw somebody stealing stuff, so it seemed O.K. for me to do it.”

Although it’s part and parcel with SO many online arguments these days. Point out Trump is convicted felon rapist garbage monster, and you get, “OH, BUT CLINTON DID THAT THING ONE TIME!” Friends, somebody else doing something bad is NOT a valid defense. It doesn’t work as an excuse when 7-year-olds do it, so it sure isn’t a valid argument for grown-ass adults.

It makes more sense when you remember the GOP is the party of personal responsibility. Oh, wait…

My guess is they pulled up to this wannabe prankster’s house just as he was going to unload them. And pointing out that the Air Tag was still in the trunk, and by the reaction of the motherlike figure “oh, let them have the stupid signs, Kevin, that way it’s your word against theirs!”

It’s the same stupidity that has always been around, I remember a local asshole when I was a kid who got caught putting sugar in gas tanks, and egging windshields. This asshole probably thought his “prank” would be praised for its political angle, but the main thing was the whole “let’s piss off some goody two shoes!” energy.

“Missouri law considers stealing signs a misdemeanor that can carry a $2500 fine, jail time, or both.”

One misdemeanor count for the whole trunk of stolen signs, one count per location from which any signs were stolen, or one count per sign? That last one could get expensive as hell. And I’m okay with that.

I hope one count for every neighbor who files a complaint, and that almost all file a complaint. After all, as the report says, people donated good money for those signs.

“We were going to prosecute you for this clear violation of the law. However, based on the number of likes you got on Facebook and your buddy Steve commenting with that funny meme, I’m going to let you go with a warning.” said no judge ever.

I really hope it’s the latter. Crime should not earn discounts on punishment when you do it in bulk.

I would counter that, as we’ve seen very recently with Boebert’s spawn and with way too many trials of sex crimes since the very beginning of the modern judiciary, the “You seem like a good person and the embarrassment of this is punishment enough, so I’m letting you off with a warning” is, sadly, something that happens a lot.

I hope his trip to “find out” is a short and costly one.

Maybe let the judge “borrow” Steve’s uncle’s RV?
