I used to go to a place that had a sushi train. I think it was G-scale or so. Large enough that a flat car could comfortably hold a sushi plate. Lots of fun and easy to keep hygienic (you don’t have a 20’ x 6” swimming pool in your restaurant) but it wasn’t as pleasantly serene as the boats. Super fun if you like model trains, though!

Um… RAD

nerdly snort/snigger…

Furex makes a cool magnetic levitation sushi conveyor

(cuz, maglev requires a lot of (super)cooling to function, that’s what makes it funny, y’see [sheldon snigger])

There were two of them in Portland before the lockdown, my absolute favorite was Sushi Ichiban on NW Broadway just north of Burnside. I’m really hoping they’ll be able to reopen.

Our local sushi place has a track for small autonomous cars which zip to your tableside with special orders. It did huge business, but has closed until the pandemic is over. :frowning: I hope it makes it back.

Do they make maglev model railroads yet?

Is there actually a “lev” part here?

At least, I imagine a much simpler system of magnets just pushing and pulling the plates, while not levitating them at all, would look … pretty much exactly the same as this video.

ETA: other companies appearing to do the same thing make no claims as to levitation. http://sushirobot.org/en/article/magnetic-kaiten
