Major Twitter hack pushes bitcoin scam on Obama, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Apple, Uber, Biden accounts, collects $$$$

It would explain a lot if we learned that Trump’s Twitter account was hacked by a racist trolley back in 2009 and he just never got around to fixing the problem.

Someone finally corners Trump directly about one of his tweets and he looks confused and is like “What’s Twitter? Have you guys not been seeing all my Black Lives Matter posts on Friendster these past four years?”

this stupid stupid problem of bitcoin’s design.

Traceability should allow folks to track the funds in to, and out of, this wallet, and when they get used in the real world, trace that back to real people, but somehow that last part seems incapable of happening.

Maybe they could add a blockchain to it, i’m told those work wonders

I’m not entirely convinced you could make significantly more money by running some other scam. I mean, you have to do something short-term–once one of your targets notices you’ve compromised their account the game is all but over. Shorting the market or some kind of pump-and-dump scam seems to be the best approach, but you still need something that will happen quickly. Potentially this could be good for the stock of a competitor, although all I can think of is Facebook and Gab (although they’re private).

But shorting Twitter stock could presumably make you a lot of money.

Saving it for later?

Perhaps the real payload is the DMs, and the BTC is just to finance the celebration.

I’m largely ignorant about how cryptocurrency works but my impression was that anonymity was a large part of why people use the stuff in the first place.

Isn’t Bitcoin mostly just for anti-government Libertarian techbros and Dark Web skeezeballs who specialize in drug trafficking and prostitution and exotic animals and drugged-up-exotic-animal-prostitution?

Not really

In years past I probably would have opined “waterfall-based combat is a poor system for selecting a new Head of State” but ever since 2016 I’m all in. You know who wouldn’t be in power right now if that was a thing in our country? The guy who fears both water and inclines.

I’m voting for extortion. Give us something we want or we’ll embarrass you to the point of massive cancelations – or something. Here’s a little teaser.

At least that’s the way it works in all the Bond movies.

They really missed a golden opportunity there, as gullible as his supporters generally are.

Good point.

However, my take of this bit in the interviews was “wants to start a royal dynasty”.

Social engineering FTW!

Twitter mass hacking: Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mike Bloomberg, Biden, Obama, more hijacked to peddle Bitcoin scam

Twitter confirmed tonight miscreants gained access to its internal control panels by tricking staff, leading to the account takeovers.

"We detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools," the social network said.

This is the problem with 2FA. There always has to be a workaround for when someone loses their phone number. Reminds me of a paypal dongle that I had in the early days which could be bypassed knowing nothing more than the old password.

Well, if you’re “investing” in bitcoin, you’re already in the target audience for scams…

Been there, done that, nobody noticed.
