I’m not even a parent, but I’m sure that if I was the parent of one of the victims, I’d be calling the local PD to demand charges be levied every bloody day until I’m instructed to stop by their attorneys. I would hope my daughter would pursue a civil suit naming the college and the prof as defendants. If not, I’d sue them anyway for my own distress and wasted investment.
Dude, i am a doctor, med school, the works. At no time, ever, at all did we have female classmates strip down to have their breasts commented on. That is abusive, if not sexual assault. There is no reason for this, evidenced by the firing of the prof. Note also, “targeted abusive commentary directed at them after class.” No, nothing justifies this. The only question is why is this guy not under arrest?
(Yes, we did learn breast exams, but taught by paid volunteers. Never classmates. This is just enraging, and trying to find a rationale by which it is not is seriously uncool.)
I just can’t with the Olympics-level mental gymnastics and outright gaslighting being employed in the argument you are refuting.
Dude. You bust into a thread on the topic of sexual predation and, without reading the article, immediately jump to defend (or make potential excuses for) the abuser, and you’re surprised to be met with a little hostility?
All us women posting here, or most of us, have dealt with sexual harassment if not much, much worse. At least 75% of the women you see out in the world have. We’re rightly pissed that yours is still the “go to” position of so many, under the guise of
And the men here calling this bs for what it is are our allies. And we thank them.
In many states it’s legal and common practice to have teaching hospitals use OR patients for pelvic exams to learn, even for unrelated procedures. The law allows this without specific consent.
I found this out today - and it’s rather shocking and disgusting, but like many things in this country there seems to be a stark divide between modern and mid-evil practices, I don’t doubt for a second that this happens at some places.
That doesn’t make it excusable.
The prof is a perv.
IDK about the USA but in the UK it was standard in the 1980s for teaching hospitals to ask for consent from patients for a student even to be present for examinations and procedures, let alone practise them.
Obviously it’s important for medical students to build experience of hands on and invasive procedures, but it should be done with consent and under the oversight of a qualified practitioner.
