Masked Nazis bang on cafe windows and shout slurs to disrupt drag story hour

I suppose it would be wrong to administer vaccines too…or for that matter contraceptives…but it does seem kind of tempting. :frowning:

Local cops are all trying to find the guys who did this.

We had a world war to get rid of these arseholes.

Yeah… how about we DON’T have to do that again, maybe?

Take photos of the nazis’ shoes. If they match the standard issue for the local police… well…

(seemed to remember reading something like that in a Cory Doctorow novel about how undercover police stirring sh!t up at protests were identified as police by the shoes they were wearing.)

That’s been a thing about identifying KKK members since way back when. They wear the hoods and capes, but don’t change their shoes…

There was also a famous incident where some agents provocateurs at a protest in Québec were found out from their police boots.

Nazis are basically the perfect villains. You can do whatever you want to them and never feel bad. In one of the new Wolfenstein games, you drown a nazi in his own piss. Nobody needs any encouragement to do that, it’s just the obvious thing to do.

Anyway, my point is that if you show up like the scum in that picture, you deserve whatever someone decides to do to you.

They are out there, tons of video. It doesn’t matter, because we aren’t dealing with people arguing in good faith. Here’s how it plays out when you have that discussion. They say that event seems tame enough but ask if you’ve seen deceptively edited video #500. That video is something like a burlesque performance or a show from an S&M club, interspersed with flyers from a drag story hour and maybe close up crop shots of a shocked looking kid taken from an event half a continent away.

No, it doesn’t. It doesn’t historically and it doesn’t in the present. Trump voters, for example, had higher average incomes than Biden or Clinton voters. I’m sitting here in Cleveland, by some metrics the poorest major city in the country, and you know where our Nazis tend to come from, the wealthy suburbs. I was just at a day long drag celebration of black and queer liberation in a neighborhood with a median household income of under 20k annually. We had no fash problems. When I did fund raising for the non-profit I was on the board of a few years ago, one of the rich old white ladies was very eager to show off her family heirloom of a china set that was a wedding gift from Mussolini. The Klan of the 1920s was an MLM filled with doctors, lawyers and politicians.

Is this the Brits laughing, or just your countries own creeping fascism?

On Monday evening, former Apprentice contestant, Michelle Dewsbury popped up on GB News, dressed as a cat, mocking the Year 8 pupil and insisting she be called ‘Meowchelle’.

When your haters try to bring you down, but wind up giving you a cool nickname. :man_shrugging:

It’s spreading, unfortunately

My PTSD fears a recurrence of the Murdoch Press anti-paedophile campaign of 2000, when paediatricians and other random people got attacked. I’ve already had transphobes shouting abuse at me in my house in 2004, I’m in no hurry for an encore.

Counterpoint- trans people in 1980s (and some 90s) movies were universally portrayed as pedophilic sociopathic murderers. So deep down, people have been terrified of us since way back.

I know this isn’t really an original insight but I think the broad trend for most of Hollywood history was that trans people were portrayed as psychopaths and cis men in drag were played for laughs. Even in (more) transphobic times it was OK to laugh along with fare like Some Like It Hot and Bosom Buddies and Dame Edna because everyone knew the performers were going to take the makeup off sooner or later.

Now the bigots are so terrified they can’t even bring themselves to laugh anymore.

Yah I think that breakdown is accurate. It’s two sides of the same coin to straight cis people of that era. Drag is making fun of how silly it would be to try and change genders, but if you try it for real you must be a monster. No other explanations are possible. So in effect, those people think drag is mocking trans people which is why it’s okay to laugh at them even though they themselves are gender bending. It’s trans-face, if you will. Vaudeville trans minstrel acts.

Nowadays the bigots are realizing that’s not what drag is, and some part of them now realizes it’s a queer-positive and sex-positive form of gender expression. That terrifies them.
