Salon posted a feed of ten of these interview tapes after this one started making the rounds. I have to say, even the best auditions seem forced. The actors seem to be working hard to remember to move, to have a reaction face on when they aren’t reading a line, to turn to the right - for some reason that is a big move for them. They make sure to touch their faces and move this way and that. It make me feel sorry for the actors to have to put themselves in such an awkward position to get parts.
Also - damn he’s cute.
Very interesting to see this and compare it to the final version. Here he seems very influenced by Sean Penn’s Jeff Spicoli, but with a Southern drawl. It’s obvious that he worked on the character a lot after this - you wouldn’t say that the film version is similar to Spicoli.
You also realise how much they (necessarily) creeped the character up, that audition guy doesn’t look much older than said high school girls whereas Wooderson definitely looks seedy.
