If I remember correctly, the “gnome goes on holiday” gag from Amelie originated in Massachusetts-- back in the 90’s someone stole a large cartoonish frog off someone’s lawn and took pics across Europe and Asia, sending them back as postcards.
So maybe, just maybe, Shrek will return after seeing the world.
