If true (big if), it would only result in the usual greedpigs diverting it from its main uses for personal vanity purposes (see Ozempic).

…almost there. just have to show it also ameliorates erectile dysfunction and the right-wing will be forced to send their “a drug for boys ok. drug for girls verboten!” case to the supreme-court-five.

We’re doing such a great job keeping drugs that are banned for EVERYONE out of people’s hands, how do we propose to keep them out of the hands of a subgroup when they’re legal for everyone else?

This drug will also still be fully legal in neighboring countries. And the fact that some countries have made / will make it legal over-the-counter is the final stake in the heart of this stupid plan.

Honestly, I’m waiting for Republicans to ban over-the-counter pregnancy tests. Surely they must realize that once a woman with resources anonymously knows she’s pregnant, she’ll be able to get an abortion outside the US in a long list of countries.

Not if we can’t travel with out male consent… and not if you’re working class. That is going on right now, women under the thumb of a violent partner or someone without a lot of resources are being forced to have babies that they did not plan or did not want or that was wanted, but is no longer viable… Women with means are still able to access reproductive care, while millions of women are not. That will be the state of things in Trump’s America for the entire country.

Hell, Republicans are talking about checking the pregnancy status of people leaving the state and prosecuting them if they return not-pregnant. (And that’s before we get into ubiquitous medical surveillance - via period trackers, smart watches, etc. - being used to prosecute anyone whose pregnancy ends, in or out of state. Prosecuting miscarriages is a hallmark of countries that outlaw abortion after all.)

And really, even if people can leave the state (or get drugs shipped to them), it only helps for those who do not want to be pregnant. The dangers remain for those who want to get pregnant, but whose pregnancies are now extremely dangerous because they’re living in an abortion-banning state. (Which has also increased infant mortality rates in those states, too.)

There was an ads from Lincoln project about a cop doing a traffic stop on a teen with her parent, trying to catching them crossing state border to access abortion clinic. The cop was fully aware of the teen’s health status and her location at all time. It was such a chilling warning of a possible future. I’m afraid the thing with that ads people may missing the point: all those surveillance tools and techniques already exist. We’re literally one wrong vote from Black Mirror. The only thing preventing it from being used on the population is the law, in “checks-and-balances” system as fragile as it may currently seem. That will no longer be the case if Orange Menace and his Nazi’s puppet masters get hold to power. It will be swift and sudden changes with catastrophic effects not only for their “enemies” but also for their supporters. While distracted by their hatred for “others,” they won’t realize until it too late for them, as typical chickens voting for Christmas.

The GQP will simply outlaw Mifepristone for anyone under the age of 45.
