JFC, the Republicans are opposing something BECAUSE it reduces teen motherhood.

Ah, the “party of small government”.

This is eerily reminiscent of the Three-Fifths Compromise, where (non-voting) slaves got to be counted as 3/5 of a person for the purposes of computing Congressional representation.

Because who needs slaves when you can just farm teenage girls to turn out the bodies you need to carry more weight in Congress?

In case it wasn’t completely clear, this is about babies as punishment. It’s how they can argue “abstinence before marriage” in one breath, then “injury to the state because no baby” in the other.

The injury isn’t loss of funding or representation (the teen birth rates aren’t high enough to make a difference, and the revenue from federal programs is less that the cost to the state for other support services). It’s about the state not being able to punish women and girls for having sex, whether consensual or not.

Fucking ghouls.

Ah, the two pillars of the Republican party together at last – the bigot’s entitlement toward the lives of women, and the billionaire’s entitlement toward money they don’t have but theoretically could.

This is bad enough as is, but the combination of the “state’s interest” in having teen mothers and the assertion of the state’s parental rights for children in custody AND the legality of child marriages in those states makes me wonder how long before men will be able to purchase a bride from the foster/detention systems in those states.

OMFG

Wait a tick, pretty sure abortion is legal in Kansas, voters reaffirmed their constitutional amendment in 2022. What baloneyshit theory of standing is Kansas’ AG concocting?

Well I guess allowing people to move out of state would also “injure” the state. Maybe they need a wall to keep people in.

I’m right here in Amarillo, and my family and I are headed to the polls.

(I’m not working early voting this election, or I would have already voted this morning).

You’re assuming they aren’t already. Texas foster system is a nightmare.

Remember when a declining teen birth rate was cause for celebration?

Those bastards need a boot to the nuts.

ETA:
These sick shitheads make me so angry I can’t even properly spell ‘remember.’

The State of Texas and the 5th Circuit is involved?

Those poor, unfortunate children. :sob:

Somehow all the fears of children being abducted by the state and the death of freedoms that for years were associated by Communist of Socialist regimes, are materialized in a very right wing state.

By this logic, should we ban condoms, single sex schools, and challenge literally any crime involving sex assault, as long as it has a chance of pregnancy? Oh, and child marriage laws.

All of THOSE would potentially lower the number of children born.
