Millennials are killing McMansions

That’s a shame. There are a lot of neat old houses around Lake of the Isles.

My own Southern California city of Monrovia, tucked into the foothills, used to have a “Banana Avenue” when the streets were first laid out in the 1880’s. They really did try to grow bananas there specifically to show Easterners that we don’t get frost here, but the climate wouldn’t cooperate for banana production so the street got renamed something much more boring in the 1910’s.

One other point - mobility issues. I’ve seen a number of people just a little older than me decide that climbing stairs a dozen times a day on bad knees isn’t much fun and move to a condo.

If they aren’t wedded to their house, condo living on a single floor starts to look attractive, especially if they anticipate being forced to do so in 5-10 years, when moving is really tough.

So much this. One of the reasons I’m glad my parents are in their current one-level condo is that they don’t have to constantly go up and down the stairs. Their previous place was three levels with relatively steep stairs, and the thought of them still being there now makes me shudder.

Yeah, I used to live over there and walked it regularly. there are a few knock down/ new builds that I have liked and a number that are mediocre, but the one that I am thinking of was in the SE corner near the greenway underpass. it’s the most McMansion addition to the lake.

Plus one from me

I wanted to add Don Henley’s “I will not go quietly” but it seems to have been swept out of YouTube - boo hiss
