It’s such a good line, coming after his whole rant about how selfless he is and what a victim he is. That both are as far from the truth as you can get makes it extra special.
I’m assuming it’s part of some position of his that anyone with empathy is a loser, or something.
Reverse virtue signalling?
I think of it as “asshole signalling.” (Which is also the case when anyone non-ironically accuses someone of “virtue signaling.” They’re almost explicitly saying, “I’m an empathy-free asshole and simply can’t imagine that everyone else isn’t one as well.”)
He’s one of those people who has found a niche role in the alt-right by acting as a token to prove they aren’t really bigots. See also: Sheriff David Clarke.
