That is exactly what they do. But nobody bothers to look at if the complaints are valid.
We have one of those MfL idiots on the board of education in my county. She got elected last year in a landslide, being the… well… white candidate out of the three running in the district.
This year, teachers have started having false complaints filed against them for “pornography”, “grooming”, etc… and are under investigation, which means they must provide every piece of material they have used in the classroom for review.
Despite being already overworked and underpaid.
Despite the rules saying they must follow a curriculum approved by the board of ed and reviewed by anyone who cares, and no outside materials are allowed.
Despite the names on these complaints not being on record as the parent/guardian of any student. Or even residents of the county.
Everyone knows it’s this woman or her MfL buddies filing the complaints, the idea being she’ll use her influence on the board to get them taken seriously, but nobody can prove it.
There was no county election today. She’s stuck there for another year.
Yep. More than half the articles’ links to the forum just circle back to the story. Thought maybe they’d wised up and finally decided to brick all us big mouths and smartasses out.
I never have that problem anymore, because I no longer look at the front page. I go directly to https://bbs.boingboing.net. If there’s a headline there that looks interesting, I follow the links to the article, and use the “back” button to find my way to the comments.
Holy shit. Kids as young as Kindergarten age are having to do active shooter drills, and all their homes are threatened by climate change, but this is the cause MfL rally around. Harassing librarians for letting kids check out approved books. Cool. Cool.
Well, you know that saying, “humor is tragedy plus time.” Sadly we’re living, currently, in the tragedy portion. I can recognize that if nothing else, the profound stupidity of (/waves generally) is going to be really funny, given enough distance.
In the last few years, reading about people dismissing the rise of the '30s fascists because they were “a bunch of clowns” is really hitting different.
I liked this graphic novel. I found it well written, cohesive and without many points that didn’t need to exist or dead times.
But one thing bothered me a lot. The antagonists were very villainous, almost like they were doing what they did just for the evil sake. They seemed caricatured to me, excessively stereotyped. I confess that I found things like Handmaid Tales or Hunger Games or any other fashionable dystopia very silly.
The antagonists in this graphic novel seemed very one-dimensional to me, it seemed like the authors were using the straw man fallacy to mock conservatives and their actions. I thought it was laziness on the part of the authors just to make us identify with the protagonists and deplore the censorship.
Nowadays I see that I was wrong. It’s quite possible to meet people like this in real life. There are some smart evil people behind a lot of stupid or scared people willing to burn books or anything they ser as a threat.
For sure. It’s been said on these threads countless times bc it’s true: if 10 years ago we were reading a fiction book that included half the real stuff that has gone down in the past 7 years, including the names of some of the players, it would be too ridiculous to believe.
But here we are.
That’s what I came to say. Why the hell didn’t the cops charge the fascists with making a false police report? If they start doing that, and doing it consistently, this crap will taper off, as craps tend to do.
