âŚand with that reveal from our less than trusty narrator, I feel I should have spotted it sooner.
If you are referring to the big S2 twist, I knew something was hinky about Elliotâs âregimentâ and living sitch, but I couldnât quite put my finger on it.
(Probably because I was so annoyed with how the writers have been drawing the narrative out in drips & dribbles this season.)
Exactly. Itâs kind of strange, but I almost feel like if they left Elliot in his fractured state and wrote him out of the script, there could be a more compelling story with Angela, Dom, White Rose, et al. The âitâs all in his headâ stuff is growing tedious quickly.
Thatâs the problem with this trope of him being the uber unreliable narrator; it puts the audience in the position of having to question every scene featuring Elliot.
Two eps ago, when he got the shit beaten out of him by Rayâs thugs, I couldnât decide if it was really happening or not.
I think if anything has happened in the show that doesnât at least represent some aspect of reality (i.e. not entirely within his own imagination), then itâs pretty quickly flagged up. So while a lot of the detail of this season has been illusory, I think the broad strokes of whatâs been going on has probably been pretty accurate (though Iâm not entirely sure what the deal with Ray and the blockchain market was, seems like a difficult, if not impossible, thing to run from within a prison). Compare that to the stuff that were obviously false pretty quickly, like the concrete funnel and the 80s family sitcom roadtrip. The clues are there as to whatâs real and not, in fact the prison thing was guessed correctly online by the second episode (not been following this thread so not sure if someone already realised it in here).
Whoah; I think you may have forgotten your spoiler tags, just sayinâ.
Yes, I am aware that fans online speculated about Elliot being incarcerated, (or possibly committed to a mental institution.)
I donât watch this show like fanboys do; I watch it the way people who enjoy good storytelling do.
Which is probably why I only chat about the show on this forum, and even thatâs not frequently;
Iâm not really interested in the conjecture of diehards who overanalyze every minute aspect of the show, or any program that I watch for that matter.
Iâm more interested in the narrative itself, and how it resonates with my own perspective.
Are spoilers really necessary? If youâre not caught up what are you doing in here?
Being considerate, and not making any assumptions that everyone perusing this thread is caught up on all the eps including the most recent one?
Well, weâve had people dip into the discussion wondering if they might be interested in picking up the series. Spoiler tags are generally a common courtesy.
Been staying away because of the hoodies in the advertising. Going give it a chance now. Make sure to invoice USA Network for your success here @Kimmo.
You should definitely check it out; even with the issues I have with the plot progression, itâs still a fascinating showâŚ
Like I said above, Iâm waiting for season two to finish so I can binge it.
Didnât notice this above: does anyone else watch this with both audio & CC?
There is extra dialogue thatâs only in the CC.
I just happened to be watching the last two episodes back2back, so I was paying attention & noticed it. It occurred in the last episode for sure.
Omg omg, I am so happy with the latest episode. It felt so right. I just canât even.
Are you sitting next to me? I just watched the last two episodes back-to-back, and noticed the same additional non-spoken lines. That tells me that they made quite a number of changes at the last minute, after sending out the script for transcription.
(For me, CC is due to auditory processing issues, not deafness, so sound is on too.)
Itâs feeling better overall. I really like the machinations that are happening outside Elliotâs bubble.
Jinx!
You also have auditory processing issues?
Phones are especially challenging. I lip read for auditory cues when talking to ppl.
The bleeping of all the âfucksâ is annoying the hell out of me. I didnât notice that in the first season, has it gotten more sweary, or did they not bleep before?
