Now some Maker needs to install a couple of little motors and a proximity sensor, so when you come near it flip-flops and sings some awful song.

Those pieces are wonderfully decorative, a real delight. I agree that they are ripe for mechanical animation - and fully classify as wonderful things for happy mutants.
