New Layout?

Put a BLOG link at the top of the main page, please.

All of the variants, including the default, solve the problem I had with the previous design, which was that my brain never learned to process the side-by-side-but-not-related vertical streams of content.

And the aesthetic is generally and effectively boing-boingy so thatā€™s good.

And I appreciate the fan service of providing the /blog variant.

And I assume that the experiment with all-caps titles will eventually end, as all experiments with all-caps do.

So Iā€™m happy so thanks.

It is under the menu, so there just not directly. Besides isnā€™t that what a bookmark is for?
Did you join just to complain? @beschizza has been quite hard at work getting all the bugs worked out and has been doing a good job so far I think.

I think the reason may be that the comments youā€™re seeing repeated are replying to more than one other comment at the same time, so the new comment shows up as a reply to each of the comments that are being replied to. (Not part of the new changes.)

Well, they are his bugs. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wordpress is, indeed, a joke. But it is a joke played on everyone.[/quote]
As a long time user who used http://boingboing.net/page/1 after the last redesign, Iā€™m sorry to see the site has gone all whitespace with a weird layout again. The http://boingboing.net/category/post URL works, sort of, if you hold down CTRL and scroll the mousewheel back a couple of notches.

I donā€™t use mobile, I have twin 24" monitors and I just want my old, readable BoingBoing back again. Please?

Itā€™s been several days nowā€¦

Hasnā€™t anyone made a greasemonkey script to ā€œfixā€ the CSS yet?

The comments/forum donā€™t appear to work at all on IE (at least IE11) - you just get a blank page. The blog part works fine in IE, itā€™s just the comments that are gone. Itā€™s not that big a deal, of course, but I donā€™t see anyone else mentioning it after several days, so thought Iā€™d bring it up. Iā€™m just curious if disabling both reading and writing comments in IE was on purpose or not.

The BBS works fine for me in IE11. In fact, Iā€™m writing this comment on IE11 right now.

I was sure I tried this on more than one machine, but it I guess I imagined that - sorry for the bad QA work. I just tried this page on another box or two and apparently itā€™s just my primary machine thatā€™s affected. I guess now I get to play ā€œfind the setting I inadvertently changedā€. Thanks for the help - hope I can figure out what I did wrongā€¦

Besides using IE? Check compatablity mode. I have to turn that on for a bunch of stuff for work things cause IE11 wonā€™t work. Happily they are moving away from that buy way too slowly for my liking.

When I do use it, IE11 works just fine for me. It has a bad rep, but itā€™s not so bad as long as you donā€™t mind not having access to an ad blocker.

Turns out I had ā€œDisplay Mixed Contentā€ set to ā€œDisabledā€. Changing it to ā€œPromptā€ allows the page to loadā€¦ without any prompt, which is a little weird - I was kind of expecting some actual mixed content to be the problem, seeing as how thatā€™s what the setting is named and all that, but whatever.

Honestly, after being a decade-plus reader of BoingBoing, this site jumped the shark for me after the last redesign. I havenā€™t visited much in the past 6 months.

Sad to see another once-cherished site reinvent itself into nothingness.

I find it hilarious when people say this, when there are perfectly good RSS readers all over the dang place. I havenā€™t visited the homepage of BB in probably 2-3 years of near-daily reading. The only reason I knew there was a redesign was because the individual article pages changed a little bit, so I had to adjust where I looked for the comments link.
