Weird petty guy. A couple of years ago he paid Destiny 2 players to play the game around the clock to boost his account to get the highest ranked standing in competitive pvp and even ended a extreme ddos attack just to get into the game

I wonder what the statute of limitations is on the charges? I guess the answer is, “as long as the rich want to exercise their might”.

Not a lawyer but my understanding in regards to civil cases in the US the statute of limitations only applies to how long they have to file the lawsuit. If it’s filed within the allowed timeframe then how long it takes to resolve doesn’t matter.

That said, it’s certainly dubious that they’re trying to have him extradited for what is a civil matter in the US on the basis that it would be a criminal charge where he currently resides. Lots of things about the case in general are pretty dubious though.

OK, so on the right is an Amiga 4000. Awesome. In the middle from bottom up is a Syquest removable drive - probably 88mb?, a CD-ROM drive, then what is likely a SCSI hard drive case, though it looks like an upside down VaxStation 2000. Above that is what looks like a 4mm (“DDS,” or digital data storage) data tape drive; at first I thought 8mm but the scale for the tape slot is wrong. Then what looks like maybe a couple US Robotics modems but the photo is too lowres to really tell. I wonder what computer is hooked to the monitor on the left.

I remember when he was Kim “Kimble” Schmitz waaaaaay back when Attrition.org was still keeping track of such charlatans.

His antics are, at this stage, not remotely entertaining or amusing.

I blame his father.

The guy is a slimey asshole but that doesn’t change the fact that the continued attempt to prosecute him is a textbook example of the US throwing it’s weight around on the basis of flimsy legal arguments for the sake of it’s monied interests. If it were any other country attempting to do the same they’d be rightfully ridiculed for throwing such a public legal tantrum.

Guess everyone better migrate their files from mega!

It’s been a long time so I don’t remember the details, but I thought there was something else sleazy and criminal about Dotcom that had nothing to do with the BS copyright charges?

The extradition to the US has no other reason than the one stated above.

Kimble is an all-around asshat and did many questionable and illegal things, that are entirely unrelated to that shitshow the US and NZ are engaged in.

You seem to be inferring subtext that I’m not implying. I don’t like the US bullying NZ into extraditing anyone for what amounts to glorified copyright infringement enabling. However, I recall that he’d done some truly harmful things to people, which means I don’t give a shit about the specific vehicle karma hits him with.

Oh, sorry for that. I’ll edit my response accordingly.

Yeah it’s less that I care what happens to Dotcom specifically and more that I’d rather not have precidents set by this bogus case give the US “justice” system a bigger cudgel to swing against less deserving victims in the future.

There are serious cases to be heard here, of course he should be extradited, I mean it’s not something trivial like mowing down and killing a kid with your car, faking diplomatic immunity and fleeing from justice.
