TV news has always been rather… suspect. They seem to have a high incidence of falling for hoaxes, unable to distinguish news stories from fictions, etc. There’s obviously not a lot of real journalism being done there (or rather, whatever journalism is being done, it’s overall wildly outnumbered by unresearched stories intended to fill minutes.)
AFAIK, Chucky’s always been cheesed.
Have you heard of Joey Skaggs?
Oh yeah - and the fact that “media prankster” is a title that’s been held by many more people than him is part of why I say this. That a prankster would often tell a story to one news channel and then have the story uncritically repeated by others (and then in turn by others), all under the presumption that someone else had verified the basic facts, really showed how they were all operating, all too often.
There’s also the whole “We reported it first!1!1” bragging rights, which IMAO is stupid.
