No charges for cops who pinned Alton Sterling to the ground and executed him

Got any case names?

You or I have to be in “reasonable fear” to use deadly force. Not cops. All badge numbers start with ‘00’, and there’s no bag limit on Black people in America.

How in the hell do we every fix this?

Only vote for district attorneys who will hold police accountable and vote out the ones that don’t.

I don’t think we can vote the cop-sympathizing DAs out of office fast enough. That is, I think virtually every newly-elected DA will cave the very first time he runs into a police-committed homicide.

We need a systemic change whereby cops have to play by the same rules as the rest of us.

  • Drastically reduce the scope of qualified immunity
  • Review every use of force as an assault
  • Review every killing as murder

Cory Maye and Ryan Frederick come to mind. Both ended up with 10 years from situations that usually result in much harsher punishment, so, yay? Both also required massive amounts of outside scrutiny and effort; had the courts just gone about their business with no one publicizing the cases they both would have been completely fucked (Cory Maye was on death row).

The clearest possible cases of self defense are in cases like those of Marvin Louis Guy, Cory Maye, Ryan Frederick, Christina Korbe. All killed law enforcement who were doing no-knock raids on their homes (based on mistaken information) - i.e. smashing down the door without identifying themselves as police - in the middle of the night, believing them to be robbers.
Four years after the event, Guy is facing capital murder charges, Maye spent five years on death row before increased attention overturned the verdict and he got life in prison (later, there was a retrial, and he plead guilty to manslaughter in order to get out after more than a decade); the others plea-bargained their way to 10-16 year manslaughter charges. All this despite the fact that in every case it was shown that they had no expectation of the police knocking down their doors (because they weren’t doing anything illegal) and not being aware the people they were shooting at were cops. In situations where someone is defending themselves against someone they know is a cop, the issue that they feared for their life may come up, but it rarely gets mentioned as a defense strategy because it simply doesn’t fly in US courts.

And assassinated.

Additionally, we need to set up special prosecutors and DAs who only deal with cop homicides and assaults. People who don’t have a massive and unethical conflict of interest from having to work with the cops every day.

What? It worked fine for George Zimmerman.

Or, as America figured out, ARM the populace, which works even better.

In America, as with pretty much everywhere else, it’s arm some of the populace, disarm some others. I can’t think of any dictators who disarmed their police or military, and a lot of them maintained armed civilian organisations, too; Black/Brownshirts etc.

The second amendment in practice does not apply to all Americans. Remember Fred Hampton, remember Philando Castile.

I live in Baltimore City — last time I checked, the black folks in Baltimore had plenty of firepower, and nobody is trying to disarm them. There’s a difference between getting shot by police for being black, and having your community be disarmed. No no, I stand by my point — the USA’s gun laws actually oppress us as a people, as we only are a risk to one another, not the powers that be, and the rampant availability of guns gives the state more of an excuse to shoot first and ask questions later.

Key facts:
• If they’re afraid, they can kill you.
• If you resist arrest, they can kill you.
• If someone says there’s a gun, they can kill you.
• Guns are for whites.

All true, but nothing new.

Guns are for cops. Lets take guns away from the population so the good cops are the only ones that have them…
