Odd Stuff (Part 2)

A pretty long article, but I found the whole thing interesting:

The catch is that appealing to animals that find the smell of roadkill, sweaty socks, and vomit utterly enchanting – as carnivorous pets often do – while not making their human companions feel violently ill, is extremely tricky. “There is a slight paradox there, because the smells that cats particularly but also dogs seem to like are often the opposite of what humans like,” says Logan.

Nestle puts it more bluntly – “animals eat faeces”, she says. “They like strong animal odours and pet food manufacturers have a really difficult time, because they have to make it disgusting enough so that the animal will eat it, but not so disgusting that the owners won’t buy it.”

Can confirm Capital Reef poster. Was just there and that particular feature was a long long drive off road to get there and was like meh once you did.

The rest of the park (million acres or so) will melt your brain with beauty.

Fun fact for that area of Utah:

It was closed due to the pandemic but one could drive out if brave enough. Waaaay out in the desert.

The Miniture Pinscher of a drug dealer betrays its master and shows police officers the location of a drug cache buried in a house .

During a search at the home of one of the targets of the operation, the small and angry dog of the dealer started to dig a part of the yard where the guardian hid the drug.

It was/is also used in leather tanning.
The egg thing is probably the oddest, to me. But the fact that the Russians on the ISS don’t recycle their urine, instead sending it over to the US side, furrowed my brow. But then I thought maybe they just don’t have the technology on their side of the station?:woman_shrugging:t2:

It made me think, “now that’s how you avoid tailgaters!”
Basically threaten anyone with a fiery inferno if they rear ended you.
I also like to think the cans are empty. A 3D version of the “if you can read this, you’re too close” bumper sticker. :joy:

TIL:

But electric vehicles still do pollute the air they drive through, in large part because they weigh so much. Local air pollution from traffic—the kind you breathe in, not the kind that heats the planet—is mostly caused by nonexhaust pollution such as brake wear, tire wear, road wear, and what the literature refers to as “road dust resuspension.” And those impacts are projected to rise with the adoption of heavyweight electric vehicles, in spite of improvements like regenerative braking.

Those impacts are likely to rise because electric vehicles are heavier. The electric F150 has a battery that weighs 1800 pounds!
