It’s good that there aren’t any steep hills around there:

This is one of my favourite songs. I randomly let out snippets of it all the time and no one ever knows what I’m talking about

For those keeping track, only 92 days (at this posting) until the Fulton, Kentucky, Banana Festival. It’s a big deal for them, and a cool little slice of “Americana” if you ever have the chance to attend.

Back in the early to mid 20th century, bananas came into to New Orleans from South America, then went to Fulton if they were bound for places like Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, etc, etc. Fulton had the only ice house on the route from Nola to Chicago, so the cars could replenish there.

Hmm. No one box.
Maybe the Twitter post about it will work

The Amarillo Zoo captured a strange image outside the zoo in the dark and early morning hours of May 21 (around 1:25 a.m.). Is it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk at night? A chupacabra? Do you have any ideas of what this UAO- Unidentified Amarillo Object could be? pic.twitter.com/86Ly9ogtBT

80 years of playground lunches

Hufvudstadsbladet takes readers to the Orava playground in Helsinki’s Hertoniemi district where hundreds of children are out in the sunny summer weather, and served a free, hot mid-day meal.

This summer marks the 80th year since the start of free lunches at the city’s playgrounds, with around 40 parks in the capital taking part in the programme.

Meals are served at noon every weekday between 6 June and 10 August and are provided for children under the age of 16.

“During the summer holidays, many school-age children come here to spend time and have lunch while their parents are at work,” explained playground supervisor Eija Sormunen.

No prior registration is required, but children should bring their own deep dish, cutlery and drinks.

All meals served at the playgrounds, about 2,000kg of food per day, is delivered by a service based in Vantaa.
