Odd Stuff (Part 4)

The Daily Show had a funny NSFW take on this, in their coverage of the recent story from Florida (set at approx. 7:30):

They are illegal in Texas. The governor has, for years, pushed against making them legal but changed his tune recently

He can no longer pretend that itā€™s just ā€œthose peopleā€ who are dying of overdoses.

And just why in the hell should something like that be illegal anyway?

Supposedly it is drug paraphernalia. Like crack pipes or bongs. Or sterile syringes if intended to be used for drugs. Yeah, it makes no sense. The GOP has pushed against harm reduction for decades. I think Abbottā€™s about face on the testing strips is less because his voters are ODing and more because it will play into his false narrative about fentanyl flooding through the southern border. That idea, that the opioid crisis is caused solely by drugs being snuck across the border or carried by undocumented immigrants, is big with them. And nevermind the fact most of the drugs come thru ports of entry.

You are now ensnared in Amazonā€™s mesh.

Naturally my first thought is ā€œCool! How can it be repurposed?ā€

Itā€™s intended for low-bandwidth connections, but there was a time when the ARPAnet backbone was 57KB/s connections, and 50M/day would get a full Usenet feed and email.

Maybe while heā€™s in prison he can get help with his literacy. Not likely, but possible.

Chicago is playing my area this fall. I thought about getting tickets. Great seats with the ā€œVIPā€ package were only $90 a piece.

Hey, thatā€™s actually a pretty a great price! Add to cart, go to checkout, andā€¦

The fuck? At no point did it say that the VIP package was extra cost, and itā€™s mandatory with those seats so itā€™s not like I can remove it.

So, $90 + $46 ā€œconvenience feeā€ + $6 ā€œservice feeā€ + $200 for the VIP package which I didnā€™t even really want other than getting early entry but itā€™s mandatory. Oh, and an additional $2.50 ā€œprocessing feeā€ because clearly the ā€œservice feeā€ and ā€œconvenience feeā€ werenā€™t enough already. Thatā€™s how two $90 tickets become two $342 tickets (plus $2.50 for processing).

This wasnā€™t even Ticketmaster selling these, but they sure took a page from Ticketmasterā€™s book there.

Needless to say I said fuck that noise and didnā€™t buy those tickets. For me to pay that kind of scratch for a live show itā€™s going to have to be for a bucket list kind of thing, not a ā€œhey that might be kinda cool to go toā€ kind of thing.

Speaking of bullshit ticket prices, I missed Smashing Pumpkins last time they were out here and I though about maybe getting tix for the show this fall.

LOL, no. Fuck that.

Even more ridiculous are the GA ticket prices:

Yeah, nope. Iā€™ve never been a huge SP fan but after this greed (and apparently their previous show here was terrible and ended after just over an hour because Billy Corgan was having voice issues), Iā€™m basically done with them.
