I remember the 3d lenticular baseball cards that came inside Raisin Bran cereal boxes.
Aside from hassling people outside Sea World San Diego on the 1970s and early 1980s, mostly I remember the Hare Krishnas as the people who had free vegetarian dinners every Wednesday in Boulder in the mid 1980s. A good meal in return for an hour or so of making music and chanting? Absolutely worth it. The Boulder folks were good people, when I had little money for food.

I wish I could find a better link… it’s a JG Ballard short story called The Secret History of World War 3. It’s set in the 90s, Reagan had gotten another term (after a change to the constitution) and there is a secret exchange of nukes in Alaska/Siberia… but no one notices as the nation is riveted on the real-time media coverage of President Reagan’s health… the bottom third of the screen on all channels broadcasts his stats endlessly to a fixated America…
