it would be really cool to send deep-water drones, ROVs, into the deepest known cenotes (blue holes) to possibly map the underground flow of fresh and seawater. these do not need to be crewed missions by humans.
the sensationalist desire to harken back to an imagined “golden age” of white, colonialist exploration exploitation, serves absolutely no scientific purpose. we all know it is self-glorifying bullshit with no real purpose, other than to boost some inflated egos.
cenotes, blue holes… sinkholes.
