Oklahoma lawmakers want men to approve all abortions

As I said here the other day: Shariapublicans

And the implied horror slightly later in the book upon learning that the Bene Gesserit were now doing the same thing ‘with volunteers’ to be able to match the Tleilaxu, despite being entirely an order of women.

That’s not a tablet computer, that’s a divinely illuminated stone tablet.

I can’t speak for women, just people in general. I think a lot of people know things on an intuitive level, but their environment allows them to override that–the trust in the people around them rather than their own intuition.

I do think some conservatives are cynical and self-aware enough to act out of pure self interest, though. I give your average person more credit than that, to think that that would be the majority, though.

The Supreme Court is an extension of our political process. They are appointed by the Executive branch with the purpose of objectively interpreting the rule of law as written by our legislature. If Americans really wanted to make abortion illegal then they could do so by pressuring our elected leaders to pass a new Constitutional Amendment.

Well they’ve certainly been trying for the last 30 years or so.

Or put new justices on the Court. That’s how we dealt with Plessy v Ferguson.

Moses was too progressive for Oklahoma.
Also, he’s one of those Old Testament types. If you know what I mean.

My comment was, indeed, not intended to be condescending and was not directed at you. I could definitely have written it better to reflect that this is not about all women, but it was a toss-away comment intended to insult the idiot calling women “hosts” and not an effort at an 800 word essay on the subject. Sometimes quick comments on a message board on sensitive issues are not perfectly crafted, and I generally try not to assume mal intent.

Someone should respond by proposing a law that men have to seek their wives’ approval before masturbating, since the man is really just an incubator for the woman’s sperm.

There are some guys who would really be into that.

"But after you’re irresponsible"
this from his quote was also really telling about his assumptions and attitudes about women

Luckily the number of Americans who oppose abortion enough to amend the Constitution in order to ban it is far below the number it would require to actually do so.

There’s a HUGE difference. There’s a difference between a fetus and a kid. A kid has rights. A fetus, not being a kid, does not the same rights (at least not yet). That’s what I believe, and I know a lot of women agree with me. Now maybe that’s not what you believe, but you know what? Tough.

This country is horribly divided over whether a fetus deserves rights of some sort. Some people believe a fertilized egg becomes the same as a person at conception. Usually it’s due to a religious belief. But it’s NOT based on science, because it’s not a question that science can answer. I, on the other hand, do not believe that a fertilized egg is the same as a person. Because we are divided, the only way to preserve everyone’s freedom is to leave the decision of whether to abort a fetus to the pregnant woman. To allow the government to make that decision for everyone in this case (where no one can agree) is simply totalitarianism.

was going to say something about this, but I’m tired. All of the shit happening over the last few weeks has wiped me out. Don’t know if he actually said this, but it’s good advice.

Well a zygote does divide relatively soon after fertilization…

I approve of whatever any woman decides to do with her body. I am a man, so I assume this fulfills the requirement.
