While I think that his statement is both foolish and insensitive, I also think that the headline here intentionally misrepresents the actual statement made.
It should be possible to disagree with someone without stooping to being disingenuous about their position. This is disappointing.

Welcome to BoingBoing
Not only is it beautiful, it is also a “gift from God”… And let’s not forget; “If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”
-
In 2012, Missouri’s Rep. Todd Akin said that pregnancy can’t result from rape because “If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”
-
Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said that while sexual assaults are unfortunate, the resulting pregnancy is a “gift from God.”
-
Libertarian favorite Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) made statements of his own implying that women routinely fabricate rape stories in order to get abortions.
-
“If it’s an honest rape,” said Paul, physicians should allow the victim to abort, but otherwise, women should not be able to terminate their pregnancies just because they claim to have been raped.

This is disappointing.
[/quote]People who are disappointed with Boing Boing
I want to give that document you posted a giant stack of likes.
Dear ISIS, we have someone for you.
It’s baffling to me that people even have these kinds of ideas, much less say them out loud within hearing distance of other people.
Why? I’m genuinely curious.
The lawmaker said that the child was beautiful, not the rape.
He is horrifyingly ignorant, stupid and condescending, and his point of view is repugnant. But this article is intentionally misstating his position in order to inflame passions, something that neither serves the pro-choice side nor Boing Boing’s credibility.
It is possible for Boing Boing to be wrong, and for reasonable and rational people who love and respect the site to be disappointed in it.
You should post one of those the next time BB posts an entry sharing their disappointment with Fox News or The Daily Mail.
I found it entertaining.
I can also understand why others wouldn’t.
To be fair, if there is a distortion, it seems to come from the original article, not BB.
But the dude still said a horrible thing that completely ignores the humanity of women who are raped.
Ugh, I hope that “legitimate” and “honest” rape meme has had its day, haven’t heard it in awhile.
What a bunch of woman-haters the Repugs are. And what a bunch of oddly self-hating people the women who vote for them are.
All completely true, and apropos, but might I suggest that you simply link to the list rather than copy-pasting several pages of text?
It was to show a pattern of behavior, that said, a link would not have the same impact. But thanks for your opinion.
Fair enough.
In any case, what Kurcaba actually believes is also pretty dumb, just not quite so incendiary.
In the UK, we use the ® after a name as the typed equivalent of ®.
Its use in the US appears to instead denote something akin to ‘sectionable’.
