On the etiquette of break rooms

Many workers don’t really have any choice in the matter, “manners” be damned.

Same here.

And some people’s lunches smell appetizing to me while others do not, but I don’t judge anyone I work with for that; when I know it has to do with my own preferences and food biases.

Hell, I’m annoyed by many of the behaviors of my fellow co-workers, (like the woman who sits across from my work station and hums loudly while she works… but she’s tone deaf and off key.)

But then again, I’m also fully aware that my annoyance is purely a personal issue, because I am easily annoyed by other people, in general.

So I adjust my own behavior accordingly.

I wear earbuds to drown the unwanted sounds out, and I put on hand lotion I like to help cancel out any unpleasant smells wafting my way from the office microwave.

In my experience, workplace/office environments tend to be soul sucking vortexes as it is. No one really wants to be there, but everyone needs to make a living, so we all do what we can to get through it… hopefully without making anyone else’s job harder than it actually needs to be.

Now all that said, the amount of condescending snobbery in this thread is rather disturbing.

The worst lunchroom smell ever- reheated Chinese seafood followed by reheated Italian with tomato sauce.
