Mutant Orange Lobster - a new nickname on me, but I’ll roll with it.
For those who are curious, most crustaceans have only carotenoid pigments, but then use proteins to change them all sorts of colors. That’s why the poor boiled ones all turn the same red after the proteins are destroyed. So I guess that means they might be able to investigate those different color varieties just by looking at the genes without otherwise harming them, which is a very neat prospect.
and they don’t produce them for themselves, they acquire them from their diet.
And here I was waiting until they’re a bit older so we could roll out a TMNT variant. Teenage Mutant Orange Lobsters.
