Or greasers. Anyone else familiar with old school denim greasers? Before leather pants could be easily had, bikers would press bearing grease in to their denim jeans. It made the denim much stronger and resistant to tearing.
I remember talking to some old bikers back in the late 70’s who were laughing about the 50’s nostalgia crowd getting “greaser” wrong. The nostalgia crowd seemed to think those biker bad boys where called greasers because of the product they put in their hair. These old folk told me that they used hair product because the didn’t have helmets and they wanted to make it easy to comb their hair after a ride but that they got called greasers because off the pants they wore.
