Why is dropbox so huge? I’ve only used it a few times myself.

Because many people are not you. (Or me, for that matter.)
That’s beside the point - I’m wondering what it’s used for, not “why” in some philosophical sense.

Since it’s counting the number of files uploaded, maybe a lot of people use it to store uncompressed directory hierarchies. All those spacer and button gifs, all that html documentation… it’s not all “archive.zip” and “bullshit.docx” and “kittens.avi”
