That seems unfair, surely they can’t make edits to their websites while they’re in jail. Right?

It was a typo. They meant “boast your immune system”.

He bought very valuable property in the middle of Center City where it can be developed into condos at exorbitant prices from a distressed asset.

He never had any intention of running the business- it was all about busting out the assets - condoing the land. Community need for a teaching hospital serving the poor and underserved/uninsured be damned.

Even if we leave aside the ambiguity of Corona’s origins, this is also noteworthy:

  • Bats live in trees, and bats poop. They don’t climb down before doing this. If you share an environment with wild bats, encountering bat droppings is no more unusual than encountering bird droppings (i.e. they’re fuckin’ everywhere, and if you’re unlucky it might land on your head). You don’t have to eat bats in order to acquire a bat disease.

  • Many things eaten in the West appear exotic to Eastern people. Many people in the West still eat wild game (particularly in the USA). Many things eaten in the USA appear exotic to European and Australasian palates (anyone for alligator & iguana stew? Rocky Mountain oysters?).

  • Where the equivalent of China’s “wet markets” exist in the West, we just call them farmer’s markets. It is possible to buy fresh meat at markets in Sydney. Western markets usually slaughter shortly before market day rather than during, but that’s more to do with squeamishness than hygiene.

Squirrel stew?

Funny you mentioned wild game, because there is evidence that Chronic Wasting Disease can cause Creutzfeldt-jakob in humans, but that hasn’t slowed hunters from shooting even visibly ill deer and butchering them. Perhaps a little less contagious, but we can hardly act superior.

Also
Hog maw is a Pennsylvania Dutch dish. It is basically stuffed pig stomach. The lining of a pig’s stomach, similar to a sausage casing, is filled with potatoes and sausage and then baked.

Many places - Marshmallow Fluff.

Damn, it’s like cramming a ton of people onto a ship in a pandemic is a bad idea. And it’s not like there was no indication that this could happen, right? /s

What a gut punch.

Unfortunately, that is probably the most accurate assessment of the current state of the science. And the politics. And politics should fucking never influence the interpretation and analysis of data. Fucking stupid timeline.

With ~3500 deaths, if we end up with 200000 deaths that’s a (checks math) 5700% increase over today.

For something he dismissed just over a month ago as something that was NBD and would be over soon.

That’s not “shifting the goalposts”, that’s changing the whole fucking sport.

Spoilers for the (great) film Contagion:

That’s basically the crux of how the novel virus outbreak in that film began. Not from someone eating bats but by an infected bat passing the novel virus to a pig which was handled by a chef that didn’t wash his hands before shaking hands with a guest that became patient zero.

Those of us paying attention might uncharitably suggest that this isn’t the first time. Or the second. Or…how many days into this administration are we?

Now that you mention it, there are plenty of places where the fact that we eat pork at all is looked at as weird. Or drink milk.

Yup, straight up criminal. My state, the one with “that woman” is experiencing the beginning if the spike in cases and deaths. People here will die as a direct result of 45’s intentional malfeasance. I very much suspect the deal that was supposed to happen between GM and Ventec was halted because Mango Mussolini can’t handle speaking with women in power who are conventionally attractive. Those women, in his feeble mind, are things to be fucked or things to be discarded, not humans with agency that he is required to interact with on a professional level.

I think taking an animal´s stomach and stuffing it with several different types of intestines and meat is such an universal dish.

But no thanks. I’ve already had dinner, thanks. Obrigado…
