Wrong kind of spotted dick, kids.
Seeing the same thing here, with a dramatic spike in congenital syphilis. Very not good!

Capybaras: New fear unlocked.
Donât know if itâs the same spotted fever, but we are seeing a significant uptick in Rocky Mountain spotted fever here in VA, also Rickettsial. Actually, an uptick in tick-borne diseases in general. With no winter to speak of to kill them off, the grass was crawling with them exceptionally early this year. And probably all of the years to come.
Time to release the opossums!
We have some that come to eat our kitties food. Not terribly cute, but yeah, they are tick eating machines. Interestingly, they have also figured out the concept of âwindow.â Our little mini schnauzer goes nuts while they eat on the other side of the window, and after figuring out she couldnât get them, they learned to just eat in peace and ignore her.
A squirrel that lived at a friendâs house would get an acorn from the yard and carry it twenty feet to a window. Then the squirrel would sit an inch from the glass and eat it. Staring at the excited and then enraged cats hitting the window. The squirrel would then get a second and sometimes third nut. It was like the cats were dinner entertainment. It always chose the window that didnât open and had no screen.
Oh hey, the Lone Star Ticks can transmit Alpha-Gal SyndromeÂč. Australia has that too. Awesome. /s
[1] AKA Mammalian Meat Allergy. Alpha-Gal is a protein in most mammalian meats, including most of the ones that humans eat, and some ticks can cause an allergic reaction to red meat. Like, anaphylaxis-level severe. For life.
Pun intended?
Unintentional, but left it in because, I mean, come on, it is pretty goodâŠ
Yikes, thatâs a lot of ticks. Ok, I know just what to wear outdoors.
I used that in Haiti. Works fine, but it will absolutely melt synthetic fabrics. And you really do not want to put it on your skin. Other than that, great stuff!
Awww, fuck. Many are not aware that malaria has been endemic to the US in the past, as recently as the 1950âs, so itâs not necessarily a climate change thing. But thatâs bad.
