Where “unnecessary” is anything except valid medical one.

Not vaccinating your kids should be a crime.

When folks would ask “well, what happened when kids got the measles back in Ye Olde Times?” I often told them to check out the graveyards. I hope none of these poor kids dies. If any should, however, it would be great to see the anti-vax parents up on manslaughter charges.

This is occurring in FL, where the surgeon general is a hard-core antivaxxer, and the gov is at the very least a spineless enabler. There will never be any prosecutions out of this. I do expect to hear “thoughts and prayers” and “this is the price of our freedom.” :face_vomiting:

And some kids dead directly from measles and indirectly from other diseases because of the way measles wipes immunity memory

And then there is SSPE, pretty much universally fatal, no treatment, 4-11 per 100k cases, unless you are under 5, then it goes up to about 18/100k. But yeah, just a harmless rash virus…

Oh gods. I didn’t know that even existed. How can the measles get even nastier and more dangerous the more I know?

ETA: that gif is probably too cute for how I am feeling reading about SSPE. I’m glad we had kii-kitten get all the vaccines and they are older now.

I’ve never seen it. Never seen polio or diphtheria. Would love to finish out my career that way but have begun reviewing the presentations because we have pretty sizable communities of unvaxxed kids here. Have seen mumps, pertussis, tetanus. They all suck and can be prevented, if we have the will. Way too many do not. I hate this timeline.

From what I have read in the newspapers, acceptance is good and people are being vaccinated. However, the quantity of vaccines made available to the population is very small. The Ministry of Health expects to receive around 6.5 million doses in 2024, which will allow 3.2 million people to be vaccinated. Unfortunately, we have outbreaks of this disease in several cities.

The government analyzed the situation and decided that the available vaccines will be administered to children and teens from 10 to 14 years old in 521 municipalities. The doses purchased from the Japanese will be delivered little by little throughout the year.

Like in the pandemic times, the enemies of humanity are spreading conspiracy theories involving the usual suspects and trying to link the low number of doses with a deliberate attempt by the left-wing government to cause suffering.

Florida measles outbreak up to seven now. The latest is a 5-year-old, not a student at the school epicenter.

From the article: The Florida outbreak comes at a time when the number of national vaccine exemptions has reached an all-time high. A November CDC report found that 3% of children entering kindergarten during the 2022-2023 school year were granted a vaccine exemption from their state. This is the highest exemption rate ever reported in the U.S.

“More and more people are questioning vaccines and why people need vaccines,” said Kimberlin, the University of Alabama doctor. “They’re gonna find out pretty soon.”

Or, just like school shootings, they will claim that dead kids is a fine price to pay for “freedom!”.

Across Africa immunization efforts have been harmed by people promoting the ideas that the shots are a way to destroy the fertility of black men, that they will allow mind-control, that they are more colonialism, etc.etc. We had almost wiped out polio on the African continent, and now it’s back.

According to the nation’s health ministry, the number of dengue cases registered during the first seven weeks of this year is twice as high as during the same period in 2023 – with more than 31,000 cases recorded.

And, yes, this is our problem too. From the CDC:

  • In the United States, local spread of dengue has been reported in Florida, Hawaii, Texas, Arizona, and California.

Dengue is also known as “breakbone fever” and can be exceedingly miserable, especially if you are getting it for a second time. Climate change sucks in so many ways!
