Oops! Biker honks at driver on cell phone, turns out to be bully cop

I agree with you. I mean if I’m allowed to beep every time I see someone doing something that could endanger my life…well I might as well start selling ice cream. Besides that’s what wild arm and hand gestures are for!

It depends on the state. It is actually illegal in Colorado, but it’s one of those laws that seldom gets enforced.

Because cops are above the law. In many states, civilians can get a ticket for using a cell phone while driving. Even if it’s not illegal, it’s unsafe.

This also illustrates how cops can give you a ticket for absolutely anything, or absolutely nothing.

NEVER talk to a cop!

Watching this is infuriating. I finally just skipped ahead because I wanted to find out how it ended.

The cop was the enraged one. A toot or two of the horn is sometimes needed to wake up inattentive drivers, especially when you’re on a bike.

Until about 1984, it was legal in Florida to drink alcoholic beverages while driving. There were even drive through liquor stores where you could stop and buy a beer, daiquiri, or whatever you wanted and quaff it while driving down the road.

Safe? Hardly, I lost several friends to oak trees, telephone pole, canals, and such, but totally legal!

The only imprudent thing the biker did was to try talking to the cop.
He should have just kept his mouth shut.

if i were this cops boss, and i saw this video i’d pull him from active duty pending some psychological evaluation and some additional training. honking the way the biker did is not classified as road rage and is not illegal. the cop repeatedly says honking the horn is illegal which it is not, that is a lie. threatening the biker with “i can take this to a whole’nother level” is actually illegal.

It is bullshit they aren’t investigating just because there wasn’t a complaint filed…there is video of the cop threatening abuse of his power. That is enough for investigation right there.

Most people get honked at once or twice, utter some expletive at the honker an get on with their day. The fact that this officer decided to take it upon himself to get out of his vehicle and teach the offending horn honker a lesson is what I find disturbing. The cop clearly overreacted to what, for many of us, is a daily annoyance that we simply move on from without incident. If the cop had just moved on like everyone else does there would be no incident, confrontation or threats issued.
And then I think about my comfort level with someone who is so easily upset and unhinged walking around town with a gun on their hip all day…

The only time I’m passing Audis and Teslas on the highway is when the driver is preoccupied with a mobile, making calls or texting. Which I might ad is even illegal around these parts…

Therein lies the rub. “Tactical, lethal force, with a tribe of buddies to back up your lies” type high ground makes the “moral” high ground kind of irrelevant.

I see that you’re not familiar with traffic circles.

A couple of these were built in the big town near me. It was confusing the first time, but it’s tough to go the wrong way. That set of intersections / overpass / on-ramps / off-ramps is so much faster now. [quote=“gweb, post:113, topic:79504”]
What problem were they trying to solve?

I think it’s about making left turns onto the on-ramps easier. You don’t cut across oncoming traffic to get on the freeway, and that lane isn’t backed up at commute time. It’s less confusing from the driver’s seat than from this aerial view.
