But it also has a for-profit subsidiary, OpenAI Global, LLC. So they’re both, really. Yay Capitalism!
I mean maybe? But you don’t fire someone, for cause, during the trading hours on the last day of the week that way.
I think it’s something pretty severe and damning that was about to come out.
Perhaps his Tech Bro gibberish wasn’t authentic enough?
Real authentic Silicon Valley Tech Bro gibberish is supposed to convince the listener that, because they don’t understand it, the Tech Bro must be a visionary genius. Altman always looked a bit deer-in-headlights during interviews.
I understand Bankman-Fried isn’t available, but perhaps Adam Neumann is willing to be a replacement?
what makes me really angry is that his sister has accused him of serious sexual, emotional, and financial abuse for years and that will not ever be a reason he would be fired.

Microsoft was blindsided by OpenAI’s ouster of CEO Sam Altman
Microsoft, which has invested billions in OpenAI, learned that OpenAI was ousting CEO Sam Altman just a minute before the news was shared with the world, according to a person familiar with the situation.
yes, we can guarantee everything is just fine.
Open AI are consistently less than candid over the uncandidty of former CEO
I think this is a disturbingly probable explanation.
I mean, it’s either this or they confused him with Sam Bankman.
“Why is that convicted guy still on the payroll? Quick, fire him!”
Here’s some more information about this, which I think deserves more attention. Thank you for mentioning it.
Robert Evans (@IwriteOK) on Twitter:
My current theory is this is an FTX style situation, where a lot of the business was being fraudulently represented to investors. The board watched what happened to Sam and crew and figured burning Altman publicly was the best way to avoid catching charges themselves.
This sounds extremely plausible to me. In no small part because I think “AI” is the next big get-quick-rich boondoggle-cum-scam after crypto and NFTs became an obvious failure.
wow, thats funny; seems like its the other way around:
Internally at OpenAI, insiders say that disagreements had emerged over the speed at which Altman was pushing for commercialization and company growth, with Sutskever arguing to slow things down. Sources told reporter Kara Swisher that OpenAI’s Dev Day event hosted November 6, with Sam front and center in a keynote pushing consumer-like products was an “inflection moment of Altman pushing too far, too fast.”
could of course be all bullshit, but altman doesnt apear to be the mensch in this clusterfuck, if aboves statements are true.
