At the time this was a thing, we showed it to our then-infant niece. (She’s now just out of college.) It wasn’t with this music, I don’t believe. She looked at it with curious interest for a bit, but her eyes began to show more concern, culminating in a deep WTF expression, and we decided to stop playback at that point.

Ah, Doctorow’s peak indifference, switching strait from “there’s no problem” to “ok there’s a problem but it’s unfixable and too late now” without a “let’s try and fix this” in the middle
