Love the idea, but I imagine it creates extra work for the city once they do get around to filling the pothole.

interesting - but what if you just filled it in w/ a bag of concrete - you can get a 5lb bag of quick drying powder for like 5$ from Homedepot. $2.99 for a bucket. water is cheap - mix and fill. mix some flowers in the concrete if you like.
or for a little more you could fill it w/ clear acrylic, and have flowers mixed in…artistic, helpful and permanent.

i get it: from a visual standpoint it’s an eye-catching statement, but what happens 2 minutes after you plant the flowers and the first car comes along and smashes them all into the dirt?
or, if the idea is to make a pothole more visible, aren’t you just turning one dangerous obstacle into another, more aesthetically-pleasing one?

Many roads are asphalt so filling it with concrete complicates removal from the city. Dirt, however, you just dig up with a shovel.

Filling it with something like concrete or acrylic can cause additional or accelerated erosion on the roadway. While filling it with dirt and flowers is far from ideal it will not damage the existing road nor would it be hard to remove.
Seems like this is the kind of thing that could cause accidents worse than hitting a pothole. I can imagine driving at night, coming upon a something in the road and swerving to avoid it, which could lead to something bad.
Yeah there’s a definite potential for that. If anything drawing dicks around potholes would be less hazardous as it might not cause drivers to swerve unnecessarily. Though that brings problems of its own with having to remove the paint off the roadway, unless something washable is used.
A while back Adbusters was trying to get people to rent jackhammers and dig their own holes (e.g., in parking lots and other paved surfaces), which they would then fill with flowers. They even distributed a packet of wildflower seeds with that particular issue.
In Nigeria and Papua New Guinea I have seen men go out into the street and fill potholes as a way to earn money - they take donations from passing motorists as they fill the potholes. In Nigeria they plant a small plant in the pothole when they are done as a way of marking their work.
