But what I was suggesting was investigating what would or could start happening during our lifetimes. Slow and limited communication, misinformation, masking locations and capabilities, and possible first strike considerations.

For example, do you launch a biological weapon or kinetic weapon in hopes of wiping out someone who might fear us enough to launch first?

Future stellar flybys of the Voyager and Pioneer spacecraft

The closest encounter will be by Pioneer 10 with the K8 dwarf HIP 117795, at 0.23 pc in 90 kyr at a high relative velocity of 291 km/s.

Don’t get too excited, though.

Statistically, a spacecraft will encounter stars within a given distance at approximately the same rate as the Sun does, which Bailer-Jones et al. (2018b) inferred to be one star within 1 pc every 50 kyr.
