Exactly! I’m saying that kind of depravity takes more than five minutes a day to instill.
Ah, well, it’s probably an on-the-job training thing.

Also a big WTF: “Scattered around the yard were gloves and other disposable protective gear left by the rescue squads.”
If you’re fucked either way, which is likely if they’re coming through your door uninvited, take a funeral procession with you.
Do you really want cops to use untrained or improperly trained guns?
“Shoot first, ask questions later” doesn’t work, for any of those involved. Life isn’t a shooting war. Even ordinary criminals know better than that. As a homeowner, you can’t let loose at a shadow, because likely as not, it’s somebody you know and might care not to shoot. As a policeman, you might get away with shooting an innocent, even a kid brandishing an airgun… well, until suicidal crazies named Johnson or Long get the idea that this is a shooting war and prepare an ambush, and those are just suicidal loners.
Trigger finger training?
I wonder if making a law about it being ok for citizens to defend themselves on wrong address police interactions and hold officers liable for wrong address raids/warrants etc that they would take the time to double check their numbers.
I doubt it. They’d just buy better protective gear for the cops so that even if the homeowners do try to protect themselves, it won’t do them any good.
At least they would have the protection of the letter of the law, if they can’t get the protection of law enforcement.
What made it even worse is that he had to lie in bed bleeding out for 45 minutes waiting for an ambulance to come then police insisted he had to walk out of the house by himself and be handcuffed before being treated.
They might not get much training, especially compared to cops in other countries where the training takes multiple years. But any job that doesn’t need much training cannot be allowed to involve making life-or-death decisions for other people.
It also varies from department to department, different states and cities have different budgets and guidelines.
“Surely THIS is a problem that can be solved with more guns!” —America
I didn’t actually say that either. Cops right now can operate with a certain level of impunity. Making them held accountable for situations when they have the wrong house might curb their behavior and double check things, or at the very least, make their actions bad enough they actually get fired for it.
