"Political Correctness"

I imagine they all could if the charity had been created for that purpose.

Most seem to have been created to just enrich those who created them.

I would call this fraud but it seems that authorities do not.

Exactly, though it’s sad the the grand majority of the donations goes to planning, maintenance, websites, rent, etc. Kinda glad that I work for a self substaining organization that help get people with autism employed (mainly in video games); but, as Zizek explained, it’s still within the framework of neoliberalism/neoconservatism/capitalism.

I also work for a charitable org. It’s often clearer to look at how low is the overhead, rather than how high are “directly benefiting” activities, cash aid, etc. The problem is the worst charities, if they’re not even making a good faith effort, they can get away with murder under that kind of accounting.

Regardless, I am happy to munge your all’s data for you, anytime.

In the thread about Billy Corgan being an idiot I ended up looking up the fortunes of Paula Deen and Michael Richards - two people who Corgan said had their career ruined by the PC police. It turns out they are both doing fine and in Richards’ case someone could even argue his racist/antisemitic probably relaunched his career.

The first thing to understand when people complain about PC having gone awry is that it hasn’t. They are trying to sell the idea that angry marginalized people are more powerful than wealthy people with platforms to speak from and connections with other rich and powerful people. They aren’t. Outrage at racism is not a force running amok and ruining our society. We could use substantially more outrage at racism than we’ve got.

I don’t know how aware people outside the UK are of the Rotherham child abuse scandal, but one notable aspect of it was that after years after year of PC-GAWN-MAD!!! bullshit from our lovely tabloids, council staff were afraid to raise their fears about the abuse for fear of losing their jobs because of the PC police branding them racists.

So I don’t know how much actual harm political correctness has ever caused, but I do know that right-wing scaremongering and lies about PC have contributed to the abduction, rape, torture and sex trafficking of children in Rotherham.

Same troll, new account.

If I may channel my inner-rightwing-radio-talkshow-host,

“Whatever annoys me in the current moment is THE WORST PROBLEM IN THE WORLD.”

I should probably mention that my irrth is self-centered and childish to the extreme. It wants what it wants (in this case, that other people stop criticizing it) and will whine and complain loudly until it gets what it wants.

The problem arises when people channeling their outer-rightwing-etc actually get a soapbox and influence others, who in turn influence others. By the time it gets to your reasonable and otherwise fair minded relatives, they might not think its THE WORST PROBLEM IN THE WORLD, but they think it’s a valid point.

And to be fair, maybe it is a valid point with regard to the extremities of PCness, such as those that attend events and shout down speakers with whom they disagree. That’s just rudeness.

However, most of the time, calls for PCness are really calls for civility and respect. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a minority group to ask that they be addressed and portrayed with respect.

Chastisement without correction is a sigh of hate.
