Possible PBBB laptop RPG game

Well, I guess I did it anyway. If it breaks, it breaks.

I struck at the shaft to deflect the halberd. I definitely didn’t try to stop the thrust.

You can attack the weapon or the hands without risking a sword break…

Okay. Go for the hands.

Because they move so slowly, you get a chance to hit the hand as the thrust comes in.

Hands are -4 to hit, but these guys are +1 because they’re so big. Telegraphic it for +4 if the roll looks too hard.

What does telegraphing it mean?

What is the roll with/without?

You’ve got skill-14 as a base, so 11 to hit.

A Telegraphic Strike gives you +4 to hit but them +2 to defend. A Deceptive Strike does the reverse.

@discbot roll 3d6 vs 11 to strike guard #1’s hand

@daneel the 3d6 dice reads: 16 vs 11 to strike guard #1’s hand (6,5,5)

Thanks a bunch, discbot.

Damn. I thought Shield was a blocking spell. Can I cast that retroactively?

As with Jibril’s thingie above, I’m happy to allow retconning when rules knowledge issues are involved. I was wondering why you hadn’t cast it already.

So, sure. How much energy into the spell?

I think 3 points of fatigue, for a +2 block bonus. Using more than that seems imprudent at the moment.

So, that would give me a 14 dodge and a 15 block? Or can/should I take two blocks instead?

The Shield spell aids all defences, not just Blocks. So, you’d be rolling against Block-15 and Dodge-16.

Re: defences. You can Dodge as many attacks as you like. You can Parry one attack at no penalty, and extra attacks with increasing difficulty. But you can only ever Block once per turn, because shields are big and slow. Hawk’s normal response should be to Block the first attack, then Dodge or Parry any extras. Fortunately, a shield’s Defence Bonus aids all defences, not just Blocks.

Huh. I misread “cannot block without a shield” as “cannot use this spell without a shield.”

All right then.

@discbot roll 3d6 vs Block of 15.
@discbot roll 3d6 vs Dodge of 16.

@nimelennar the 3d6 dice reads: 11 vs Block of 15. (3,3,5)

Try this again.

@discbot roll 3d6 vs Dodge of 16.

@nimelennar the 3d6 dice reads: 7 vs Dodge of 16. (1,3,3)

Cool. I’ll write it up.

Successfully survived. :slight_smile:

Current situation is Hawk and Jibril in front of the guards, everyone else huddling outside the door.

Hawk decides that discretion is the better part of valour and advances in a rearward direction back towards the others.
