I took my brother there a few years back and he was astonished to learn that the American Antelope (Pronghorn) is a real thing. He learned when one darted in front of the car and almost clobbered us.
I always thought this bird was a cartoon thing, not a real animal.
When he stands up he does have modestly long legs, and I tried but failed to get him with his crest up (he pops it up and down constantly).
He does not say, “Beep Beep!”, disappointingly.
They’re basically the North American version of a Hoopoe, but family-wise they’re actually a large, terrestrial cuckoo.
