The neighbour usually put a lof of fresh fruits for the birds in his garden. There were several species eating there, but I couldn’t take any pictures. We can see even toucans flying around. Next time I Will ask him permission for taking pictures or make a vídeo.

From your other pic, what sort of monkey is that? He’s got cute little tufts coming out of his ears, so I want to call him a grandpa monkey!

But seriously, do you regularly see those guys in the city?

This is a marmoset and we call them mico, miquinho or sagüi. The commom marmoset is an invasive especies that became very well adapted to the life in the big city.

You can see these little fellas almost all over the city. I took this picture in my mother’s garden last sunday, but I usually see these animals even where I work. As Rio is still surrounded by well-preserved forest parks, the marmosets felt at home. Below, there is a link for an institution that tries to protect these parks:

I think the one of the few places where you can’t see the marmosets is the city center. There are many buildings and few green areas there.

More info about the sagüi:

If you want to se bigger monkeys you should go to the Botanical Garden or to the Lage Park. But If you want to see a bigger one, you have to travel far to the south of Rio.

I thought you had to have more than one to have a MarmoSET.

Love that you’re disappointed to have Marmosets wandering the neighborhood. Our German exchange student was thrilled to see a Possum wandering in our back yard over the summer.

One monkey set! Juts like one man army.

You usually see them, running on the energy wires , in a pack or family with 6 or 7 individuals.

Hah! There are a lot of these marsupials here too. My mom is scared of them, but I don´t know why. I think they have their own charm.
