Post your Pet or animal Pics (Part 1)

I have a cat that does not do laps (or other body parts), but prefers to lay right next to me, which he does a great deal. Like at night, he sleeps next to me. He likes being wrapped up in a blanket, though, which is surprising, and will also let you lay practically on top of him.

I, too, try to hold him at least once a day, if only to condition him to it for the times when I have to take him to The Place That Must Not Be Named (because he is too smart for us to speak its name out loud; he is a good hider).

Once he sat on my daughter’s lap for several minutes, and once he sat on mine for about 10 minutes. It was one of the happiest days of my life, right up there with giving birth to my daughter and getting married to my husband. He is a really heavy cat, though, so, I have to say that not having him sit on me on a regular basis is probably not so terrible.

These are so cuuuute. You have to make these into a children’s book.

Just need to figure out the goose equivalent of “Hang in there” for a poster.

Did you use a blue filter on that Great Blue Heron? I’ve never seen one with such deep color before!

He was in breeding plumage which is more blue-grey than non-breeding, though it was mostly just the weird lighting near the water bringing it out.

Thanks for the explanation! I forgot that it’s mating season. That makes perfect sense. I wish they were that color year round, though…it’s so beautiful.

Visited friends this Sunday to celebrate Mothers Day and a birthday. Had to bring our dog, since she loves being free in the countryside instead of cooped up in a city…

Awwww, happy dog!

Poor baby had to have his teeth cleaned today. He gives us a really hard time over cleaning them at home so he had to get the full treatment under anesthesia.

No extractions needed this time, thank goodness. Last time he still had a baby tooth and there was so much gross stuff stuck between it and his adult canine.

Nothing like a sunny day on a stump. She’s 18+ yo, with sutures where her second ear was recently removed. Doesn’t hear well anyway, so not having pinnae is not a problem.

Naked kitty!

I gave her a bath (like, WITH WATER :scream:), so she gets to air out for a bit before the shirt and diaper go back on.

Awwww. My kitty doesn’t hear so well anymore, either, so you can sneak up and startle her (whether you mean to or not). Also, she is now a little extra loud.

OMG, you guys. Yesterday I spotted a house finch nest. I’d never seen a house finch chick before. Their nest hygiene is… not quite up to human standards.

That makes me think about a doves’ nest outside our window many years back. We made the apartment painters wait to paint anywhere near our window ledge. Then we watched them trade places, feed the babies, and watched the offsprings’ take their first flights. It was magical until we had to bug-bomb our bedroom afterwards because of the infestation of mites.

Yeah, it’s best from a distance.

We get a lot of sparrow nests (they clog up the dryer vent, alas). The last few years the cardinals in the yard had a new brood this year, I was watching the young ones begging for food from dad. They’re so funny, they’ll fly down, stand next to seeds with their mouths open, make begging sounds, and wait for a parent to pick the thing up and give it to them.

These are some juveniles from a couple years ago:

When we were in Vancouver there was a pirate cruise with a storefront we dropped by and ask the shopkeeper about whether they had any hedgehog-scale pirate accoutrements. They were super nice and gave us this hat.
